A scientific study published in 2012 evaluated the effectiveness of raw honey and a mixture of honey, olive oil–propolis extract, and beeswax in the treatment of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis in 90 children with leukemia. The patients were divided into 3 groups; the first group was treated with only raw honey, while the second group with the mixture and the control group none. The results of the study demonstrated the healing of the patients treated with honey and the mixture containing honey, propolis, and beeswax in a shorter period. The authors suggested using honey and possibly other bee products targeting chemotherapy-induced mucositis.
